#sml The Mandala Chronicles is a YA fantasy novel full of mystery with a touch of romance. The best part of this book for me was the unique concept. Yes, there were some nods to classics (HP, LOTR, etc) but overall Wright pens an intriguing plot. I had trouble getting into this book. The first chapter drew me in but then the story stalled for the next fifty pages. As a writer, I also can't help but nitpick little things. (Sorry!) One thing that stood out to me was repetitive sentence structure. Told from alternating POVs, Peters describes the family's struggle to honor their Jewish faith while surviving the oppression of 1910's sweatshops.
